 SureRetainer™ by Motzblock® Product Information

Purpose:  SureRetainer™ by Motzblock® is a soil retainer that prevents backfill from displacing void form under grade beams and slab edges. Lightweight design allows nesting for storage savings. SureRetainer™ by Motzblock® is proven to outperform precast blocks, fiberboard, or lumber. Overlapping, self-sealing capability provides easy, continuous retainer installation.

Construction, Composition & Finishes:  SureRetainer™ by Motzblock® is made of strong, yet flexible plastic. They are impervious to soil and water and easily attached to concrete during installation.

Handling and Storage:  Although SureRetainer™ by Motzblock® products are made of plastic, and are impervious to soil and water, they should be stored flat (not on end) to prevent warping and out of direct sunlight prior to placement. MSDS information available upon request.

  Features & Advantages:

 SureRetainer™ by Motzblock® In Use

SureRetainer™ by Motzblock® is used along with WallVoid® to create a total system approach to your concrete protection requirements.

Installation Instructions:

  1. Select the proper size- 14" x 36", 20" x 48", or 26" x 48". SureRetainer™ by Motzblock® must project a minimum of 2 inches above and 1-1/2 inches below the void material.
  2. Dig a 1-1/2 to 3 inch groove in undisturbed soil or compacted fill approximately three to five inches (for 14"), four to six inches (for 20"), or five to eight inches (for 26") from the edge of the void form. This will ensure that the SureRetainer™ by Motzblock® will remain in place during backfill and compaction.
  3. Place the bottom flange in the groove and lean the flat side against the concrete. Make Sure the side flanges overlap at least one inch to provide a continuous seal. When properly installed the top flange should be flush with the concrete.
  4. Pieces may be cut to shorter lengths to fit. Be sure to allow enough length to overlap the pieces to ensure a good seal. SureRetainer™ by Motzblock® cutoffs less than one foot in length should not be used. For inside corners, miter cut the pieces for a proper fit and tape the seam.
  5. After the SureRetainer™ by Motzblock® is in place the backfill process should begin. Grouting or sealing the top flange is not necessary. Backfill materials should be placed in lifts and compacted to the desired grade. Compaction machinery can be used immediately next to the SureRetainer™ by Motzblock® without causing damage.

Installation Instructions:

  1. Install at angle as illustrated, not vertical.
  2. Store out of direct sunlight.
  3. Store flat, not on end, to prevent warping.
  4. If installed on fill, insure that the fill has been properly compacted.
  5. Install with ribs perpendicular to void form.
